KAKENHI Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research C

Mechanisms of Toughening and Durability Enhancement in Sustainable Nanocomposites

PI: J. Tanks, NIMS

Co-PI: K. Tamura, NIMS; Y. Arao, Waseda University

Period: 2025/4 - 2028/3

The objective of this project is to develop bio-based composites that can compete with conventional composites, particularly in terms of long-term mechanical integrity. Our approach is to implement a processing technique for dispersing nanofibers into bio-nylon at high loadings and investigate the resulting toughness, which then translates to crack suppression during thermo-oxidative aging under severe service environments. Stay tuned for more updates!
